Smoothing and shaping should be done in one direction only.

Square, oval, or “squoval” shaped nails are the strongest shape.

Avoid filing your nails with the emery board perpendicular to your nails, and never file with an emery board angled toward the top of your nails.

Fine nail files give a more precise and professional result, however they wear down faster.
